7. Base Line

22-Jan-2023 Home practice range set up yesterday, I used old arrows to mark distances - 10, 20 ,30, 40 & 45m. The Bunnings Butt turned out to be very well compressed, the arrows stuck 3/4 of the time with some hangers, otherwise the arrows just bounced off and I don't think the double wool pack bags helped.  I thought I'd better have a shot or two before shooting the outdoor range today. All walk back or walk in, no set distance stuff but it is definitely required. Can't see the arrow markers very well so I put a red spot. Shot OK at the range, a stark reminder of what I need to work on. Gaps, form, following shot sequence, other than that though....  Not unhappy with the score but plenty of room for improvement. Thanks to CJ, TJ and AP for their company, some laughs and a nice relaxed day in the bush. For the data heads that may be interested. FL14 Tally: Shot - 42 arrows @ home          - 55 arrows @ outdoor shoot Total - 97 Casualties - 0 ...

6. Blast from the past

Whilst not being a super sentimental person, I do enjoy coming across things I forgot I had and the shed clean out delivered in spades. A lifetime packed in boxes and it has brought a smile to my face every time I've opened a new box over the last week, I've also managed to throw away almost four cubic metres of junk and counting. Above is my current arrow stash, below is the one I'd put behind something and forgot. Below is my crude bow/arrow stand I made in the early days, I called it the 'Discerning Archer 2000', it's OK if you're only shooting one distance. I made it so I didn't have to put my bow on the grass each time. It'll fit two bows of any size side by side. I found my Robin Hooded arrows from indoor, it was a short group 2 from memory. A handful...

5. The next twelve months in a nutshell

So you know, this won't be a barrage of stuff day after day. After the following post, it will be a weekly touch base post to keep myself on track and accountable and give anyone who may be interested something to do for three minutes and please feel free to comment if you feel the need, either at a shoot, the club events or right here. The Range. I have just over three acres outside of Colac, the lot is 60m wide by 200m long, it was a paddock when we bought it so over time we have started planting trees etc, the back half of the lot has been fenced and we are currently babysitting 49 sheep to assist in what was armpit high grass.  We have 8 chooks in the little hutch you can see centre, they free range all day and are locked away at night due to foxes. We had this guy show up yesterday on his way through to the dam next door in the heat, first snake we have seen since being here, i don't know much about snakes but it looks like a Brown and was just over a metre in length. The ...
